About the Job:

You will perform journey-level preventive maintenance, repair, and minor construction on the federally supported facilities, equipment and systems, roads, and grounds of the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this roles are as follows:

  • Install, repair, and maintain all phases of electrical breaker boxes, switches, exhaust fans, lights, exit lights, security lights, water coolers, kitchen equipment, etc.
  • Install and repair plumbing fixtures such as:
    water pumps, sinks, toilets, showers, water heaters, faucets, drain lines, etc.; Assist in the installation and repair of main water lines.
  • Build, install and repair walls, porches, additions to buildings, doors, screens, windows, drywall, floor tile, roofing, gutters, drainpipes, siding, soffit, bulletin boards, cabinets, counters, etc.
  • Paints and/or applies other surface finishes to walls, ceilings, window frames, woodwork, curbs, roadways, furniture, equipment, interior and exterior structures.
  • Troubleshoot and make minor repairs to HVAC systems, refrigeration and AC systems including ductwork.
  • Performs grounds maintenance work including, but not limited to mowing, trimming, fertilizing, leaf removal, trash pick-up, snow and ice removal, and minor repair of parking areas, roads, and walks.
  • Install and repair locks and latches.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).
  • Ability to use and repair a wide variety of hand and power tools, vehicles and small engines.
  • Working knowledge of, and ability to use skills in, carpentry, welding, masonry and plumbing.
  • Ability to make repairs to electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to use and repair a wide variety of hand and power tools, vehicles and small engines.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment.
  • Ability to coordinate the work of others.
  • Ability to read and follow guidelines and blueprints and to handle simple mathematical problem when making repairs.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and tools in making repairs.
  • Ability to obtain and hold a valid driver s license.
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
